Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill: Our Clearwater Beach Dining Adventure
In our quick two-day trip to Tampa, we found some time in one of those days to make a trip to the beach. We went to Clearwater Beach and ending up having dinner at Fenchy’s Rockaway Grill. Frenchy’s has multiple locations across the Clearwater/St. Pete Beach area. The menus across locations can vary but for the most part the menus are the same. Frenchy’s has become a favorite in our family for food, drinks, and views.
Ambiance
The ambiance is pretty much what you would expect when you think of a beach bar. If you are not into beaches, you probably wont like it. There are multiple dining areas ranging from indoor and outdoor bars, indoor and outdoor seating, and they even have beachfront dining where you can dine in the sand. It’s nothing fancy and its basically a beach front shack, but that’s why I love it.
Ambiance 5/5.

Frenchy’s owns their own fishing boats and runs the Frenchy’s Seafood Company. They source their own seafood for the restaurant and sell to other local establishments. Frenchy’s is famous for their grouper sandwiches and during stone crab season (Oct – April) they offer stone crab which are a local delicacy. Frenchy’s stone crab stacks right up with Joe’s Stone Crab down in South Beach Miami.
We found ourselves there in June, so unfortunately for us there was no stone crab to be had. We started off with one of Heidi’s favorite soups anywhere. The She Crab Soup. It’s even better with hot sauce they have on the table. To go along with the soup, we got a half order of the Garlic Crab Fries. Both the soup and crab fries were amazing, even better than I remember.
For our entre we split the fried Super Grouper sandwich. You can get the grouper sandwich prepared in a multitude of ways, but the fried grouper sandwich comes with tartar, lettuce, tomato, provolone and its served on an onion bun. The fish is crispy on the outside and moist and flaky on the inside. As good as the sandwich is, I don’t know if it can top the She Crab Soup.

Service
Service at Frenchy’s can be hit or miss. During peak hours they will be slammed putting a strain on the waitstaff. I’ve also been there at slow times, and it took a while to get a server. Once you get a server, and place an order, the food seems to always come out fast. We had a party of eight on our last visit and we had no issues with the service.
Service 3.5/5
Overall
Frenchy’s has been and will be one of my go to places in the Clearwater Beach area. The food and drinks have always been spectacular. The beach shack vibes and great food make it a place I highly recommend to anyone. If you are there between October and April stop in for the stone crab. They won’t be on the menu; you’ll have to ask.
