We had one night in Epcot before we had to head to Tampa for a few days, so we decided to try a place that I have heard get horrible reviews. I have avoided it for years because of the reviews I’ve heard, but we finally decided to try it. That place was San Angel Inn located in the Mexican pavilion in Epcot at Walt Disney World.
Ambiance
The ambiance of this restaurant might be the best of any restaurant in all of Epcot. Its located inside of the temple of the Mexican pavilion. It sits next to the boat ride, Grand Fiesta Tour, that will pass by like Blue Bayou in Disneyland. If feels like you are dinning outside along a river at dusk, but you are inside in the air conditioning. The restaurant itself is dimly lit with candle lights at the tables providing ample light for dining. Beyond the water is a picturesque view of the Mayan pyramid and a sometimes erupting volcano.
Ambiance 5/5.
Food
If the name didn’t give it away, San Angel Inn is a Mexican restaurant. The menu has a diverse selection of Mexican dishes along with standard Disney kid’s menu. While we didn’t order any drinks the menu also boasts a wide variety of Margaritas.

For starters we ordered the Totopos, which is chips with two dips. One Salsa and one white cheese sauce. The salsa was one of the better salsas I’ve had at any Mexican restaurant. Usually, I have to ask for a spicy salsa, as the ones brought out are pretty mild. The salsa had a decent spice level and smoky flavor.
My entre choice was the Enchiladas de Pollo and Heidi went with the Tostadas de Pollo. The Enchiladas de Pollo was comparable to an Enchiladas bake. It came in a cast iron skillet covered with salsa verde, crema, and cotija cheese. I thought it was very tasty. The chicken was inside the enchiladas was moist and flavorful. The corn tortillas rounded out the flavor of the dish. I would 100% order this again.
The Tostadas de Pollo that Heidi ordered were crispy corn tortillas topped with beans, chicken, queso fresco, cilantro, and crema. The chicken seemed to be the same chicken that was in the enchiladas and the beans were also tasty. The only real complaint I had with them is that they maybe could have been served hotter. By the time I tried them they were lukewarm.
Food 4/5
Service
The service at San Angel Inn was unremarkable. We had no issues with our server, but it also wasn’t the best service we had all trip either. I couldn’t pick our server out of lineup if I had too. My only complaint was maybe waiting to pay the bill at the end of the meal a few minutes.
Service 3/5
Overall
I had avoided San Angel Inn for years after hearing bad reviews on the internet from other bloggers and vloggers, but our experience there was nothing but positive. The ambiance is going to be tough to beat by any other restaurant. We had no issues with the food, it wasn’t the best Mexican food I’ve ever had and it was far from the worst. I would have no issues returning in the future.
